Men's Section Competitions. During a recent review of the local rules presented on the score cards for Eden and Hadrian courses, the following omission has been noticed, and hereby clarified. In the interest of protecting young trees: If a tree that is staked or otherwise indentified (e.g. protected by wrapping), interferes with a player's stance or area of his intended swing, the ball MUST be lifted and dropped in accordance with rule 24.2b (Immovable obstruction). Rule = drop the ball, WITHOUT penalty, within ONE club length, from the nearest point of relief, NOT nearer the hole. Men's Committee, 26th July 2010 |
All of the tree plantations are NO LONGER HAZARD areas. (Probably since about 6 years ago), but players are still being observed dropping the ball outside of these areas!! For clarity - if your shot lands in the trees, you have only 3 options - (Rule 28) 1/ Go back and play again from original place (penalty, add 1 stroke) 2/ Take the ball backwards keeping where it landed and the flag on a straight line (penalty, add 1 stroke) 3/ Drop the ball 2 club lengths from where it lay, but not nearer the hole, (penalty, add 1 stroke). THERE ARE NO OTHER LEGAL OPTIONS. Thankyou. Jon Denwood Captain Mike Bland, 12th June, 2010 |
Thank you from the EGU I attended the prize giving for the recently held English Amateur Seniors Championships which were part held at Eden. Both the EGU and the competitors were impressed with the course and grateful for the welcome and assistance they received. They asked that I passed this message on to you all together with their thanks for allowing the competitors courtesy of the course. A plaque commemorating the event was presented to the club which will be displayed in the clubhouse. Jon Denwood Captain Mike Bland, 5th June, 2010 |
Eden golf course will be closed to members and visitors Monday to Thursday. Don't forget though, Hadrian's course is open and waiting to test you, if you haven't yet tried it! Dear Member Mike Bland, 27th May 2010 |
9 Hole Qualifying Competitions |
Hadrian's Course only - 9 hole qualifying competition Brief Notes! For full information now on 9 hole qualifying competitions, see our rules page: Then reading between the lines, these are the simple but important bits. 1/ It has to be Stableford format. 2/ Calculate your playing handicap like this: Your exact handicap minus 1 then divide by 2. e.g. 15.4 - 1 = 14.4 then 14.4 / 2 = 7.2 then round up/down = 7 handicap. 3/ After playing, 18 points are added to your score, (by the computer), the buffer zone for cat 2 and 3 = 35-36 points and for cat 4 = 34-36 points. Then normal handicap adjustments will be done. 4/ Real handicaps cannot be reduced below 5.5 by entering one of these competitions. 5/ Members can return a maximum of 10 scores from this type of competition per year. Inactive Handicaps - information for members - MORE |
Inactive Status? How can I change this? Players will be required to submit 3 qualifying scores from either: A] Supplementary Scores i.e recording a social round with an “active handicap” member. (See your Pro first). or B] 9 and 18 Hole Qualifying Competitions, watch out on the notice boards or your web-site. or C] Away scores, bring your signed card to the Pro shop. Do this as soon as you can. Signed and sensible NR's may also be accepted by the Committee as part of the 3 Qualifying Scores. Note: Clubs will be permitted to exempt players from an inactive handicap for injury/illness that has prevented them from achieving the required number of qualifying scores during a calendar year. This will also include those players who are transferring membership who have submitted scores albeit at another Club and to golfers new to the game who are being issued with first CONGU handicap. Inactive Handicaps - information for members |
A number of Eden members have what are termed inactive handicaps, these result from less than 3 qualifying scores been submitted during the 2009 season. Those who this applies to will notice a small i adjacent to their listed handicap on the club notice board or on www.howdidido.co.uk. An inactive handicap can result in the player been barred from taking part in both club and open competitions. Handicaps can be reactivated by players submitting 3 cards in competitions during 2010 and/or cards completed during a social round with a club member with an active handicap, having given prior notice to the professional staff. The Men's Committee is keen to encourage as many members as possible to play in competitions and has taken the decision that players with inactive handicaps can compete in all club competitions and be eligible for prize money. They will not, however, be eligible to win Trophy Competitions or Open Competitions but can of course take part. Any player who qualifies for either the doubles or singles knockout must have an active handicap when they take part in the first round. Good luck for the season, Jon Denwood, Mens Captain Mike Bland, 2nd April 2010 |

Handicaps 2009/10 . |
Your handicap committee is required by CONGU, to carry out an annual review of the handicaps of all members. The purpose of the review is to identify: Those players whose general playing performance and scoring pattern over the year is better than that expected for their handicap category and who should be considered for a reduction of handicap. Those players whose general playing performance and scoring pattern over the year falls short of that expected for their handicap category and who should be considered for an increase of handicap. The handicap committee have decided that based on the evidence of completed competition rounds this year, the increases/decreases in handicap are displayed on the notice in the changing room.
